in Gaza is simply the worst ever man-made humanitarian

disaster there are are many humanitarian disasters in this world but none of them

is like that none of them is such horrible situation that is

man-made by the Israeli establishment uh we are talking about

different dimensions of how bad the situation is first of all the huge

medical emergency resulting from the terrible bombardment of Gaza we are

talking practically today about at least at least 50,000 Palestinians killed 72%

of whom are children and women and more than

92,000 injured people many of whom will simply die because there is no medical

treatment for them uh in addition to that you have very

serious results of this impairment that has happened because of Israeli

bombardment there some the huge number of people who are going to live with

disability including at least 1,200 maybe 1,300

children who lost their limbs for the rest of their lives uh but many other

people who are now handicapped because of the injuries uh that's one side but the

other side is the destruction of people's homes and shelters Israel has destroyed in my

opinion no less than 90% of all homes and houses in Gaza uh even the schools that became

shelters temporary shelters for people who were displaced so many times even

those shelters were bombarded by Israel I think 80% of all schools that are

shelters have had have were bombarded one time or another so there is

destruction of the places where people should live and should stay

add to that the destruction of infrastructure we're talking about destruction of water pipelines of

electricity pipelines electricity lines networks uh

destruction of communication networks and destruction of seage systems this this is leading to a

terrible environmental disaster you have garbage everywhere that nobody can collect because most most Vehicles were

destroyed you have uh no place to take them to uh

more than 1.6 million people are now stuck in a very little strip on the on

at the Sea Side uh between uh between darl balah and uh and the north of Rafa

and uh total disaster people many many people live in tents that are plastic

where at during daytime the temperature is around 50 c

Centigrade horrible conditions and add to that the fact that Israel is

depriving people not only from food and proper diet they're depriving people

from clean water which has become one of the main sources of terrible terrible uh

hygienic situation and a cause of so many epidemics that are spreading now in

Gaza uh according to Medical relief we have at least 76,000 cases of hepatitis

infectious hepatitis which is a an epidemy now we have cases of

menitis we are very very very worried about the possibility of an outbreak of

potis among children so in my opinion Israel is killing

people uh with bombardment with air strikes but also it

is killing people with uh this barbaric uh barbaric biological

warfare uh because it's a biological warfare actually what they are doing to the people of Gaza one last point before

we move to another question is the level of Destruction you have to remember that

Israel has used up till now more than 880,000 tons of explosives uh that is about 36 kilogram

of explosives for every man woman and child in Gaza and the 880,000 tons are

nuclear heads that were thrown on Hiroshima and nagazaki during the second world war ER terrible terrible situation

so tell me how are these Palestinians being treated right now amid all of this

facilities in Gaza how can these Palestinians be treated well first of all uh let's say

that Israel had two major targets besides civilians of Gaza during this

terrible Attack One are the journalists because Israel does not want to allow

information to come out of Gaza according to our information 165

journalists have been killed so far including many of Al jazer correspondents the last of whom uh alul

was alul was decapitated by an Israeli air strike with his

photographer and uh the goal is clear here but the other Target are medical

personnel more than 320 medical personnel so our doctors nurses

ambulance drivers were killed by Israel some of them were tortured to death in

Israeli jails like uh the the the head of Orthopedic Department and the head of

obstetric Gynecology Department in shifa hospital uh who were arrested they are

they were young people and healthy and they were tortured to death and then Israel declared that they were that they

are no less than 250 other health professionals who are arrested and are

in Israeli jails at the moment subjected to terrible conditions what happens is that they are

response has been to coordinate and cooperate with all other health institutions medical relief responded by

deploying no less than 45 Medical Teams now from the north of Gaza to the

South uh working everywhere and with these mobile clinics including mobile

teams to treat the injured people we are trying to alleviate as much as we can

the suffering of the people and we cooperate very well with the Ministry of Health but also with other with whatever

remained of some hospitals like for instance I'll give you an example when the Baptist in Gaza City itself there

are only two structures remaining now the Baptist hospital and medical relief

and uh when they attack recently they forc Baptist Hospital doctors and nurses

to leave to EV evacuate by force and many injured people were left alone

without any care and we had to send our medical team taking risks to get into

the hospital while the main Medical Teams were deported to to help the

injured people and and the teams did that so it's heroic one of our I mean of

course I have to say that most medical centers were destroyed all hospitals were attacked uh and what remains is

maybe two three hospitals that are capable of uh partially functioning but

Main Medical Centers were destroyed our main Medical Center in the city of Gaza was burned completely by Israeli tanks

three of our clinics were brought down to the to to were leveled to the ground

uh two rehabilitation center for people disability with disability were also leveled down uh a main Center which was

providing Aid equipment to Injured people and to the dis people was also

destroyed and so on and so forth but these our teams there the teams the

medical teams in general in Gaza regardless of whom they work with they are heroic they are heroes they are the

real heroes of this this catastrophe and I do believe that they and the

journalist should receive the Nobel Peace Prize for this for the coming year because nobody can deserve such an honor

more than these wonderful people of course of course they are hero and since Dr you have a lot of a crew uh and

Personnel in Gaza that work for your esteemed organization maybe it could help us understand the latest accurate

statistics because as you know the Lancet which is one of the world's most prestigious journals they recently

published a a report suggesting that the total fatalities in Gaza could be very

higher than what is currently indicated can you tell us more about this
What diseases are spreading in Gaza?

according to your statistics well the official number that we know now is 50,000 people killed this

number could easily reach 100,000 because there are so many people

missing the 40,000 that are recorded are the people we know the names of and that
12:20
were that came to hospitals and were then buried 10,000 are missing but the

number of missing is probably much larger than that for instance 1,500

buddies were found recently in the vcinity of St man concentration camp in

the nagab and so many people were field executed by the Israeli Army we have uh

documentation of cases of people who were arrested and then field executed by the Israeli Army so yes the number could

reach it 100,000 people killed it's it's very possible we can we cannot verify

that exact number till after the war and after this after the we have a real

ceasefire I want also to add that there are a number of people who died because

of diseases women in while giving birth uh patients with chronic diseases

because had there been a medical care and treatment they they could have easily

been saved uh we had to hire recently medical relief had to hire

75 mid midwives to at least help a little but the 60,000 pregnant women in

Gaza who need medical care now we receive reports about a huge spread of

this is an important Point by the way spread of skin infections why because there is no cleaning material I was

talking to our teams today and their main complaint today was we don't have

soap we don't have cleaning material we don't have things to wash the clothes

with we don't have anything to clean even the tents people are in it's

horrible it's a total hygienic disaster and that's why you have thous tens of

thousands of people especially children with severe skin diseases like SC IUS

impo other infections and even certain types of uh certain types of chicken pox

and other things and some of them could die because if the skin gets infected

and you don't have the proper antibiotic to treat them with they will die they

will get sepsis and die eventually so uh it's it's a horrible hygienic situation

our guys tell us the most important need now is to have hygienic material of

course to help to help alleviate this terrible environmental disasters yes and

I've heard from my friends and relatives in Gaza that people now in Gaza they use

Mak shift toilets that are among the tents of the people and then the sewage of this it runs through the Alleyways of

these tents and this cause a lot of pollution a lot of diseases we also heard some reports of polio in Gaza so

what are other diseases that are spreading now in Gaza we're hearing about diseases that gone long time ago
The mental health situation in Gaza during this genocide

and now they're returning to Gaza because of the the seage of the pollution of the lack of

hygiene well infectious hepatitis is one of these epidemics that are spreading now Pootis we are at a risk of having

polio because polio virus was found in the seage systems in the seage water and

it could easily become a very serious epidemic I am sure there are now so many

cases of measles because people do not receive vaccination on time and because
16:08
the whole vaccination system is either paralyzed or partially paralyzed and so

you are talking about several several diseases that could we could see also more cases of uh of uh uh other

infections that are usually controlled by by vaccination like peruses which can

be very dangerous also so uh any disease that usually is controlled by

vaccination could could appear again we've eliminated potis in Palestine long

time ago because we had very good system of vaccination and uh uh and now it can

come back and it can be very dangerous uh so yes uh we are talking

about many many severe diseases that could now be affecting the people then

add to that many people with non with chronic diseases or non-communicable diseases like heart diseases we have

10,000 cases of cancer some of whom we are able to treat because we have the medications for them but there are

thousands and thousands of people who we don't have facility to treat them they need chemotherapy which is not available

in Gaza H they need to maybe radiotherapy which is absolutely non

nonpresent in Gaza Israel did not allow radiotherapy in for the last 20 years

and so people used to come to a West Bank for treatment or go to Jerusalem or go even abroad that is all paralyzed

because the borders are closed and we cannot take out these P patients with

cancer to receive the proper treatment but then add to that people who need kidney dialysis we don't have sufficient

medical uh equipment to provide the mid treatment to people with who need

medical who need kidney dialysis which means they are doomed to die it's

like a death sentence to all these patients who cannot receive the proper treatment on time ER we managed to get a

good amount of medications to the north but now in the South we have very serious shortage we have lack of

antibiotics we have lack of medications for skin diseases we have lack of medications for cancer and uh it's it's

very serious situation which could become even worse in the coming days if unless the world

Community can find a way of pressuring Israel to allow supplies of medications to the people in Gaza and I know you

know doctor I I know a relative of mine who was um injured during this war since

the beginning of this war and he needed to do a surgery in his leg and the doctors couldn't do the surgery not

because they they can't do it but because his U his skin and his flesh can't heal because of malnutrition so

Mal nutrition is also contributing to worsening these U medical conditions of the Palestinians and it's only getting

worse and by the way we have spoken about the physical uh health of the Palestinians but we haven't yet spoken

about the mental health of the Palestinians nearly everyone I talk to from my family from my friends in Gaza

every single one of them needs mental health support and even the doctors that

I know the psychiatrists in Gaza who I know they tell me that they themselves
19:30
need mental health let alone the other Palestinians who suffering starvation and bombardment and genocide how can we
19:37
heal these Palestinians even if this war stops well first of all I think people
19:45
are able to survive mainly because of this wonderful community support and Collective
“I blame ALL western governments”

Community Support where the families are supporting themselves and each other

where people are supporting each other these Medical Teams play an A Very crucial role in helping the people and

we hope we can get sufficient resources or donations to maintain them and keep
20:09
them uh they play a very important role but you are right we are talking about

severe malnutrition that is affecting everybody uh one of my colleagues who is
20:20
Dr basam Zak who runs our medical operation in Gaza tells me he lost 15 to
20:26
16 kilograms of his weight and believe me he he wasn't that fat I
20:31
mean he was really I mean he had normal weight so you can imagine how this
20:37
affects his immunity and that's the doctor who's running the operation so most people have lost weight have lost
20:44
immunity and because of malnutrition uh we don't know what will be the outcome of this I I know that uh
20:51
in the case of Leningrad during Second World War which was put under siege for
20:58
3 00 days 300 yeah 300 days I think or

actually more uh and uh after the war they found out that 50% of all the

population had hypertension so the stress is going to have physical and mental effect on

people uh I think everybody in Gaza is now suffering from post-traumatic disas

stress disorder that's it's an epidemy and every child is affected by this

trauma and uh so we try to help with our Medical Teams because each team each of
21:37
the 45 teams have a psychosocial support person and they play a a useful role and
21:44
but of course uh the main the main thing that could stop the deterioration and
21:50
the continuation and more complications psychosocial complications the main thing is to stop the war because you

also people are stuck very huge number in very small area I don't know what's the size of the area where people are

now maybe it's no no not bigger than 30 squar miles or so when you talk about

2.3 million people stuck in this little area it's like everybody is in a Cell in

a present cell not a present but a present cell and that makes people nervous it creates a lot of social

problems I know there is a rise of of cases of divorce uh people just don't

know what to do and of course it's very dangerous and the fact that Israel

continues to bombard and kill uh any police force in Gaza or anybody who

tries to help even in a community- based kind of organization to keep the

internal security between the People Israel keeps shooting them and killing them because they want chaos they want

the Army kept bombarding and they lost a couple of children because of the

bombardment and some were injured as well many were injured and they knew if

they stay inside the house they will be killed because the Israeli tanks continue to bombard so what did he do he

in shifa hospital area after the Army left and destroyed the hospital

and why where is this whole teaching about human rights

and this propaganda about how much they value not only people's lives but

violation of all of all un resolutions and all un laws and all the the whole

international human rights uh conventions uh let me let me give you an

example the most recent decision of the icj was very clear the icj said that the

Israeli presence in the occupied Palestinian territories including West Bank Gaza and Jerusalem and Gan Heights

of course is illegal and they have to be they have to leave these areas and the ICA decided

that forth Geneva Convention applies to the occupied territories and they ruled

that West Bank as and Jerusalem are not disputed territories are not Jewish territories they are Palestinian

territories they belong to the Palestinian state to be and and the the

court also decided that Israel has the obligation of any occupying power to

provide everything that is needed by the population which they don't do at all not only they don't do on the contrary

they continue killing the people that and are under their occupation even using military forms like the

air strikes on people under occupation and Gaza now is under occupation so

Israel is violating every law and they will not be deterred unless we see a real and strong and wide campaign of
